Day 10: Waiting with Purpose
Devotional Thought
After the resurrection, the disciples were ready to move—they had seen the Risen Lord, received His peace, and heard His commission. But Jesus told them to wait.
Waiting doesn’t sound exciting. It feels passive, frustrating, and slow. But in God’s plan, waiting is not wasted time. It’s preparation time. Jesus knew the disciples were called to change the world, but He also knew they couldn’t do it alone. So He told them to stay, pray, and expect the promise of the Father.
Their obedience in waiting positioned them to receive the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
This is resurrection life—it doesn’t rush ahead of God’s timing. It trusts that what God has promised, He will deliver. The disciples didn’t know how long they would wait, but they gathered, they prayed, and they prepared. The waiting was the work.
Are you in a season where you feel like God has asked you to wait? Maybe for an answer, a breakthrough, a promise fulfilled? Take heart—God isn’t delaying to deny you. He’s preparing to empower you. When He says “wait,” He also promises to send.
Don’t confuse silence for absence. The Risen Christ is still with you, and the Spirit is still on the way.
Reflection Points
1. How do you typically respond when God asks you to wait?
2. What might God be preparing in you during a current waiting season?
3. How can you shift your mindset from passive waiting to purposeful preparation?
Practical Applications
1. Write a list
Name three things you’re currently waiting on God for. Surrender each one in prayer and trust.
2. Prepare intentionally
Ask God what step you can take today to get ready for what you’re praying for (spiritually, emotionally, or practically).
3. Create a “waiting prayer”
Write or speak a short daily prayer like: “Lord, I trust Your timing. Prepare me for what You’ve prepared for me.”
