Day 11: Power for the Mission
Devotional Thought
The resurrection gave the disciples joy, hope, and boldness—but Jesus knew they still lacked one essential thing: power. And not just any power—Holy Spirit power.
Jesus didn’t ask His followers to fulfill the Great Commission by charisma or strategy alone. He promised a power that would fill them, fuel them, and send them. The word Jesus used for “power” here is dynamis—the explosive, miracle-working energy of God Himself.
That power wasn’t just for the early church. It’s for you. You weren’t called to follow Jesus in your own strength. Resurrection life is Spirit-empowered life. It’s not about trying harder—it’s about depending deeper.
Notice the order: first power, then witness. Too often, we try to share Christ without asking for the strength of Christ. But Jesus says, “Wait for the power, then go be My witness.”
Where? Start right where you are—your Jerusalem. Then step out to your community (Judea), your cross-cultural surroundings (Samaria), and even to the people you never imagined (the ends of the earth). But wherever you go—go in power.
You don’t have to hype yourself up. You have the Spirit of the risen Jesus living inside of you. And that’s more than enough.
Reflection Points
1. Where in your life do you feel like you’re lacking power or running on empty?
2. What does it mean to be a “witness” in your own Jerusalem—your home, job, or community?
3. How might your influence grow if you fully relied on the Holy Spirit?
Practical Applications
1. Ask boldly
Pray specifically for the Holy Spirit to empower you today in an area where you feel weak or unsure.
2. Be a witness
Look for an opportunity to talk about what Jesus has done in your life with someone in your daily environment.
3. Study someone empowered
Read Acts 2–4 and take note of how the Spirit transformed Peter. Reflect on how God might want to do the same in you.
