Day 9: The Gift of the Spirit

Apr 29, 2025

Devotional Thought

Jesus’ resurrection wasn’t just about defeating death—it was about unleashing life. When He breathed on the disciples and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit,” He was doing more than offering comfort—He was transferring power.

That breath echoes the beginning of creation, when God breathed life into Adam. Now, the risen Christ breathes new creation life into His disciples. This moment is the bridge between the resurrection and Pentecost—a quiet, personal moment of impartation that would lead to bold, public witness.

The Holy Spirit is not an optional upgrade for Christian living. He is the essential gift of God’s presence within us. He empowers, convicts, comforts, teaches, and leads. He’s not a force; He’s a Person. And He’s with you.

The same Spirit that hovered over the waters of creation, that filled the prophets, and that raised Jesus from the dead... now dwells in you. That means you’re never without help, never without wisdom, never without power. You’ve been filled with resurrection breath.

Don’t try to live this new life in your old strength. The Christian life isn’t about self-effort—it’s about Spirit-dependence. Every day, we receive again. Every day, we lean into the Spirit’s power. And every day, He makes resurrection real within us.

Reflection Points

1. What does it mean to you that Jesus breathed His Spirit into His followers?

2. In what areas of your life are you relying on your own strength instead of the Spirit’s power?

3. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit in your own journey with Jesus?

Practical Applications

1. Invite the Spirit

Begin your day with this simple prayer: “Holy Spirit, fill me today. Lead me, teach me, and empower me to live for Jesus.”

2. Read Galatians 5:22–23

Reflect on the fruit of the Spirit. Which one do you most need the Spirit to grow in you right now?

3. Practice dependence

When facing a challenge or decision today, pause and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance before reacting.
