Day 3: The Road to Emmaus – Eyes Opened
Devotional Thought
Two discouraged disciples trudged down the road, weighed down by sorrow. Jesus had been crucified, and with Him, all their hopes seemed to die too. They had heard whispers of resurrection but had not yet encountered the risen Savior for themselves.
Then Jesus showed up—walking with them, speaking to them, and even teaching them from the Scriptures. But they didn’t recognize Him until a simple, sacred moment: He broke bread. Something about the familiar way He gave thanks and served opened their eyes to the truth— Jesus is alive.
That’s often how resurrection encounters work. Not always in the thunder or the miracle, but in the breaking of bread... in the everyday acts... in Scripture opened and hearts ignited.
Many of us are walking our own “Emmaus roads”—places of disappointment, confusion, or fatigue. We want answers, clarity, hope. What we need most is an encounter with the risen Christ. And often, He’s closer than we realize. He’s walking alongside us. He’s speaking to us through His Word. He’s waiting for us to see.
Don’t miss Jesus in the ordinary. The resurrection isn’t only something to celebrate; it’s Someone to recognize in your everyday life. When your eyes are opened, your heart will burn again.
Reflection Points
1. Have there been moments when you realized Jesus was present only in hindsight? What changed your vision?
2. How might discouragement or disappointment be blinding you from recognizing Jesus walking beside you today?
3. What are some “everyday moments” where you can be more aware of Christ’s presence?
Practical Applications
1. Pause at every meal today
Before eating, invite Jesus into your table and thank Him for walking with you. Use it as a sacred space.
2. Reread Luke 24:13–35 slowly and prayerfully
Ask God to open your eyes to His presence in your own journey.
3. Share a “God-sighting” with a friend or loved one
Tell someone how you recognized Jesus recently in a simple or surprising way.
