Day 3: God in the Fire

When Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace, he expected to see three men destroyed by the flames. Instead, he saw four figures walking in the fire.

God did not keep Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the furnace. He met them in it.

This is one of the great promises of Scripture. God’s people do not face suffering, opposition, or costly obedience alone. Isaiah 43 says, “When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” The promise is not that we will never enter the fire. The promise is that God will be with us there.

Faith is not confidence that everything will happen the way we want. Faith is confidence in the God who is present, faithful, and sovereign. The three friends knew God could deliver them from death, but their faith was deeper than physical rescue. They trusted God whether in life or death.

We can face the fire because we do not face it alone. God may deliver us from the fire, or He may use the fire to deliver us into eternity with Him. Either way, we are His.

- Take time today to name your fears honestly before God.

- Reach out to someone who is walking through difficulty and remind them they are not alone.
