Day 3: The Spirit You Cannot Afford to Ignore
The Christian life cannot be lived in human strength alone. The church in Ephesus had truth, endurance, and activity, but they had drifted from the love and life that come from God Himself. One of the clearest signs of spiritual numbness is self-reliance.
We may rely on our knowledge, experience, personality, gifting, discipline, or planning. These things are not wrong, but they were never meant to replace dependence on the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said the Spirit guides His people into truth. Paul prayed that believers would be strengthened with power through the Spirit in their inner being. This means we do not merely need better strategies. We need God’s presence and power at work within us.
Before conversations, decisions, ministry, parenting, serving, studying Scripture, or caring for others, we are invited to pause and seek the Spirit’s help. Not as a formality, but as a necessity.
A church can look alive while operating in its own strength. A believer can appear faithful while quietly running on fumes. But God has given us His Spirit so that we would not have to live numb, empty, or alone.
Reflection Questions:
-In what areas of your life are you relying mostly on your own wisdom, strength, or ability?
-How often do you consciously ask the Holy Spirit to guide your words, thoughts, decisions, and relationships?
-What might change if you truly believed you could not live faithfully apart from the Spirit’s power?
Application Points:
-Begin today by praying: “Holy Spirit, lead me, strengthen me, convict me, and help me follow Jesus.”
-Before one important conversation or task, pause and ask the Spirit for wisdom and love.
-At the end of the day, reflect on where you sensed the Spirit’s help, conviction, or guidance.
