Draw A Line

May 18, 2025    Pastor Marcus Jackson

In a culture that glorifies hustle and overcommitment, this sermon challenges us to reclaim God's peace by setting healthy, God-honoring boundaries. Every “yes” comes with a “no”—and too often, we unintentionally say no to God’s best by saying yes to everything else.

Using the story of Nehemiah, who refused distractions and manipulation while rebuilding Jerusalem's wall, the message outlines how boundaries protect focus, guard against guilt and people-pleasing, and empower others to grow. Nehemiah’s famous response—“I am doing a great work and cannot come down”—reminds us to stay committed to our divine assignment.

Key takeaways:

Boundaries Protect Purpose – Not every invitation is an assignment. Stay focused on your God-given calling.

Boundaries Resist Manipulation – Pleasing God may mean disappointing people. Like Jesus, we must draw lines that keep us on mission.

Boundaries Take Grace and Grit – Saying “no” can feel hard, but grace empowers us to choose purpose over pressure.

Boundaries Empower Others – Healthy limits don’t just guard your peace—they create space for others to rise and lead.

Jesus Modeled It Perfectly – Even Jesus withdrew to pray and rest, showing us that saying “no” can be a holy act.

Ultimately, the cross represents the greatest boundary—between sin and salvation—freeing us to live with clarity and freedom. The invitation is clear: Define your wall, protect your purpose, trust God's grace, and lead from a place of health.
