Day 2: Set Your Heart Higher

Apr 22, 2025

Devotional Thought

Resurrection doesn’t just lift you from death—it lifts your focus. Paul reminds us that being “raised with Christ” isn’t just a spiritual upgrade; it’s a total shift in perspective. When you were raised, your position changed—and so must your priorities.

You now belong to heaven’s kingdom, even while you walk this earth. That means the things that consume the world—fame, comfort, revenge, control—no longer hold ultimate value for you. “Set your hearts” means aim your deepest affections higher. “Set your minds” means fix your thoughts upward, on Christ who is reigning right now.

But let’s be honest: the gravitational pull of the world is strong. Our attention is easily hijacked by fear, materialism, or constant distraction. That’s why Paul’s command is not passive. “Set your heart... set your mind...” is an act of intention. It takes discipline and desire.

As resurrection people, we no longer live for the approval of people or the treasures of this world. We live for Jesus. We seek what He seeks. We think with eternity in mind. Living the risen life means learning to say, “What does Christ value here?” before we act, post, or respond.

Your new life calls you upward. When you set your heart and mind above, your attitude shifts, your habits align, and your life begins to reflect the One who raised you.

Reflection Points

1. What earthly things tend to dominate your thoughts and emotions?

2. What does it mean to set your heart on things above—not just your thoughts, but your deepest desires?

3. How might your decisions change this week if you consistently remembered your position in Christ?

Practical Applications

1. Begin your day with “above-thinking”

Before checking your phone or email, take five minutes to thank Jesus for where He is and where you now belong.

2. Take inventory

Write down five “earthly things” you’ve been obsessing over and surrender them to God in prayer.

3. Choose one action today that reflects a heavenly value

Forgive someone, give generously, serve quietly, or speak life into someone discouraged.
