Day 5: The Thrill of Obedience

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). Eternal life isn’t just something that starts when we die, it begins now, as we know and walk with God. This relationship transforms how we see everything, including obedience.

Following Jesus is not dull religious duty; it is the thrilling privilege of participating in God’s redemptive work. When you step out to share the gospel despite fear, when you choose integrity despite cost, when you stand with the oppressed despite misunderstanding, you taste the joy of partnering with the living God.

And you were never meant to do this alone. “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…” (Hebrews 10:24–25). In the church, our approval games are meant to die. We are all needy sinners rescued by the same Savior, walking together toward the same eternal home.

Today, God invites you to step into obedience, not alone, but with your brothers and sisters in Christ beside you.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

- When have you experienced the “thrill” or deep joy of obeying God, especially when it cost you something?

- How has fear of others’ opinions kept you from stepping into what God is asking you to do?

- Are you meaningfully connected to a local church or small group where you can be known, encouraged, and challenged?

- Who in your life helps you resist fear of man and pursue obedience—and who might you need to invite into that role?

APPLICATION POINTS:

- Take one risk of obedience: Ask God to show you one specific step of obedience He’s calling you to take this week (sharing your faith, confessing sin, reconciling, serving someone in need), and do it.

- Engage community: If you’re not in consistent Christian community, make a concrete move: join a small group, attend a gathering, or reach out to a mature believer to meet regularly.

- Spur someone on: Encourage at least one fellow believer today. Share honestly about your struggle with fear of man, and pray together for courage.

- Pray John 17:3: Ask God to deepen your knowledge and love of Him, so obedience flows more from delight in Him than from duty or fear.
