Invitation of Trials
This sermon, launching a series in James called “I Choose,” unpacks James 1:2–12 to show how Christians can choose to trust God in the midst of trials. James calls us to “consider it pure joy” when we face all kinds of hardships—not because trials feel good, but because God sovereignly uses them to test our faith, grow perseverance, and mature us. In our confusion, we’re invited to ask God for wisdom, trusting that he gives generously to all without finding fault, rather than living double-minded—praying to God while ultimately relying on our own strength, comforts, or resources. Both believers in humble circumstances and those who are rich are urged to shift their confidence away from what they lack or possess and to rest entirely in Christ, since everything else is temporary. The message concludes with the promise that those who persevere under trial are “blessed” and will receive the crown of life, reminding us that Jesus himself suffered and overcame, walks with us through our trials, and is leading us toward a future where trials will cease and joy in his presence will be complete.
